Our last visit to Uluwatu was incredible. Our highlights were the beautiful beaches, the relaxed vibe, our wonderful accomodation and the Uluwatu temple at sunset.

How to get to Uluwatu, Bali
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS):
The closest airport to Uluwatu is Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), also known as Denpasar International Airport. Uluwatu is approx 30-40 min drive from the airport. Once you arrive, there are plenty of ways to transfer from the airport to your accomodation.
Taxi/Grab/Gojek:Â Taxis are available at the airport, and you can also use ride-sharing apps like Grab or Gojek to get to Uluwatu.
Airport Transfer:Â Many hotels and resorts offer airport transfer services. Make sure to arrange this in advance.
Private driver: Arranging a private driver is easy. Ask your accomodation. We used Bali tour and they can be reached on whatsapp. +6281236276645
Bemo:Â Bemos are small public minivans that operate on set routes. They are a more budget-friendly option, but the routes may be limited.
How to get around Uluwatu, Bali
Like most of our recommendations for Bali destinations, there are plenty of options to get around
Motorbike/Scooter Rental:
Renting a scooter or motorbike is a popular and convenient choice in Bali. It allows you to navigate through traffic easily and explore the area at your own pace. Make sure you have the necessary licenses and wear helmets. This was our preferred way to get around Uluwatu
Grab/Gojek:
Use ride-sharing apps like Grab or Gojek for convenient and affordable transportation. We used this when we needed and it was super convenient and afforable.
Private Car Rental with Driver:
Renting a car with a driver provides a comfortable and hassle-free way to explore Uluwatu. It's a good option if you prefer a more relaxed and guided experience.
Walking:
Some parts of Uluwatu, especially around the beaches and cliffs, can be explored on foot. Walking allows you to enjoy the natural beauty of the area and discover hidden gems. It isn't like Canguu though, a scooter/ driver/ car is recommended so you can really explore.
Bicycle Rental:
If you enjoy cycling, renting a bicycle is a eco-friendly and leisurely way to explore Uluwatu. However, keep in mind that some areas might have hilly terrain.
Shuttle Services:
Some Uluwatu accommodation, especially resorts and hotels, offer shuttle services to popular attractions in Uluwatu. Check with your place of stay for availability and schedules.
Public Transportation:
Bemos (small public minivans) operate on set routes and can be a budget-friendly option for short distances. However, they may not cover all areas, and the schedules might be less flexible.
Uluwatu Q&A
What is Uluwatu famous for? Uluwatu, is famous for its stunning cliffside views, pristine beaches, and world-class surfing spots. It's renowned for its iconic sea temple, Pura Luhur Uluwatu, perched atop rugged cliffs, offering breathtaking sunset vistas. Uluwatu is also known for its vibrant nightlife scene, with beach clubs and bars attracting tourists and locals alike.
So is Uluwatu worth visiting? Absolutely yes! We enjoyed the more relaxed vibe post Canggu. We aren't surfers but it is also an idyllic location for surfers.
Is Uluwatu better than Canggu? It is a great complement to Canguu? If you have the time, visit both. Canggu has that exciting hustle and bustle atmosphere. Pleasant chaos. Uluwatu is much more relaxed.
How to avoid Bali Belly? Speak to your pharmacist or doctor about probiotics that can help prevent and ease Bali Belly. Stick to busy restaurants. Avoid washing teeth with the tap water, use bottled water. Avoid ice in drinks or ask whether they use tap or bottled water for the ice.
Is the water drinkable? Avoid drinking/ using water from the taps. Stick to sealed water bottles.

Uluwatu Temple Area: Home to the iconic Uluwatu Temple perched on a cliff, this area offers stunning ocean views and cultural performances at sunset.

Uluwatu accomodation
We loved our accomodation Incense at impossible beach. Run by a Portuguese couple who have done an INCREDIBLE job at the design and decor of the place. It is so quiet and relaxing with a fantastic pool and breakfast included, the smoothie bowls and banana pancakes were a hit. It was a huge highlight of our trip to Uluwatu. We did need the scooter while here but we always assumed that would be the case for Ulu.

Uluwatu Temple: Visit the iconic Uluwatu Temple, perched on a cliff with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Explore the temple grounds and catch the traditional Kecak dance performance at sunset. Get there early or talk to your hotel about ticket reservations. It does book up but is spectacular to see.
Surfing: Uluwatu is renowned for its world-class surf breaks. Surfers of all levels can enjoy riding the waves at famous spots like Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Bingin, and Dreamland beaches.
Beach Hopping: Explore the stunning beaches of Uluwatu, including Padang Padang, Bingin, Balangan, and Dreamland. Each beach has its unique charm and offers opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the coastal scenery.

Golf at New Kuta Golf Club: Although not in Uluwatu, the Kuta golf course is approximately 20 mins away from our favourite Uluwatu accomodation. Play a round of golf at the New Kuta Golf Club. A tough course but along the cliffs with stunning views of the ocean.
Water Activities: Engage in water activities such as snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, or jet-skiing at various beaches.
Yoga and Wellness Retreats: Uluwatu is home to several yoga studios and wellness retreats, providing a tranquil environment for relaxation and self-discovery.
Uluwatu Handmade Balinese Lace Shopping: Explore local markets and shops for unique Balinese lace products, known for their intricate designs and craftsmanship.
Sunsets: We love a good sunset and Uluwatu has some incredible spots. El Kabron, although a little exxy with a min charge of approx $80 per person, has one of the most spectacular sunsets we have seen. Sundays beach club also has a great sunset atmosphere with live music and bonfires.

Best Uluwatu restaurants
Breakfast
Suka espresso: Great coffee, lovely industrial style setting, good avocado toast and poached eggs.
The cashew tree: A wholesome breakfast option serving up lot's of nutritious options like acai bowls, fresh smoothies, and homemade granola in a relaxed garden setting. This is also a fun venue at night with music and dancing.
Warung Bejana at Bulgari Resort Bali: Keen to try a more traditional breakfast? Warung Bejana serves up great traditional delights such as nasi goreng or bubur ayam in a lux setting.
Dinner
Mason: Also recommended in our Canggu blog. Definitely on the pricier side but if something special is what you are after we recommend Mason. The food is woodfired and medditeranean inspired and the decor is beautiful
Ours: Good option for lunch or dinner. Delicious cocktails too. Get the tuna tacos and the cauliflower bites.
Laggas asian fusion : Casual asian dining, lot's of flavour and great cocktails. Good for the dumpling lovers.
Seafood BBQ on Bingin beach: Lucky fish was our choice and it was lovely. A really nice and relaxing way to end a day. Casual beachside experience. You choose your fish from the cooler and they cook it up for you there and then. You will be covered in ash and smell like BBQ for the next few days but worth the experience.
