Explore the city with a Walking tour

We highly recommend a walking tour to start your trip. It is a great way to understand the city, it's history and the best way to get your bearings. We like to start with a walking tour because it helps us quickly figure out the areas we want to explore more.

There are a so many tours available. Check out GetYourGuide and Viator for a range of walking tours available or rock up to Rossio square in the morning (before 10am) and chat with one of the guides. There are plenty of "free" tours available with the expectation to tip. Most take approx 2.5 hours but some can take longer.

Grab a coffee @ A Brasiliera in Chiado

Enjoy a coffee at A Brasileira in Chiado. Originally we thought this was a tourist trap given it's location but after understanding it's cultural relevance to Lisbon, this iconic cafe is a great way to sit back, enjoy a "Bica" and people watch. It is also adorable!

Enjoy a Pastel de nada @ Manteigaria

You cannot come to Lisbon without enjoying MANY Pastel de Nata. Very close by to A Brasileira is Manteigaria, arguably the BEST Pastel de Nata in Lisbon. We have tried endless places, even gone on Pastel de Nata tours and Manteigaria is, in our opinion (and the opinion of many) the best Pastel de Nata. There are a few locations around so keep an eye out.

Take in the views from the Miradouros

If you are still feeling up for walking around, check out some Miradouros (viewing points) around the city. Relax with a drink looking out over the rooftops. Such a great way to enjoy an aperitivo and relax after clocking approx 25,000 steps. Our favourites are:

  • Miradouro da Graça

  • Miradouro de Santa Luzia

  • Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

Dinner and drinks @ Lisbons best restaurants

Enjoy dinner and drinks in some of Lisbons best restaurants. Depending on your mood and location. Choose from the following:

Ramiro's - The most iconic seafood restaurant in Lisbon. No frills, great seafood but be prepared to queue.

Taberna Sal Grosso in Alfama - Local ingredients and flavors with a contemporary touch. Great chef, oozes a causal cool. A great option for lunch and dinner. Another option, arguably better atmosphere for dinner is the sister restaurant "Salmoura" which is close by.

Tapisco - a consistent great experience in Lisbon. A little exxy but always a good time and great food.

Day 2

Kick start your day with a coffee @ Malabarista

Start your day with a coffee from Malabarista. We have tried plenty of coffees around the city and this is definitely our favourite.

Enjoy lunch across the river @ Ponto Final

Take a Ferry from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas to Ponto Final for Lunch. The ferry will cost approx 3.60 euro return. Book Ponto Final in advance via phone or email. They only do 2 sittings a day, 12.30pm and 6.30pm. We love the long lunch option! This is always a highlight for us.

Explore the area of Almada

After lunch, explore the areas of Almada. There are plenty of beautiful walks and viewing points.

Almada streets

Take in the best view from the Cristo Rei statue

Walk to the Cristo Rei statue and take in the sweeping views over the Tagus River and over Lisbon. To get to the top will cost 8 euro but worth it for the views.

Enjoy the sunset from Almada

Walk back towards Ponto Final along the water. The walk takes approx 30 mins and you will walk through vast palace ruins with stunning street art. You will end up at the Jardim de Rio. There is a great little bar serving fresh fruit cocktails, beer and wine. They also usually have live music. The sunset and atmosphere is incredible and the perfect way to finish up the day.

Hire e-bikes or e-scooters to Belem (approx 7-12 euro)

The trip up the river will take approx 45 mins (without stopping) but allow yourself 1.5 hours to stop at some of the sites a long the way.

Belem, Lisbon

Taste the Pasteis de Belém @ Pastéis de Belém

Arguably the best around. Pasteis de Belem are the original of the Portuguese tart. This is the only place you can purchase the specific original Portuguese tar as the recipe has been kept a family secret for over 100 years. Highly recommended, they are delicious!

Sunset cruise

Organise a sunset cruise with a group or join a group. It is a great way to end a day sailing along the Tagus river and watching the sun set over Lisbons beautiful buildings. You can find plenty of options on Viator and Get your Guide have a selection of cruises to choose from depending on budget, date and group size.

Enjoy fado at some of Lisbons best fado bars

Three of our favourite fado bars are:

Clube Do Fado (Alfama),

A Tasca Do Chico (Bairro Alto),

Tasca Do Jaime (Graça).

While not exactly Fado, Bar Tejo is definitely one of the most local and intimate live music venues; an eclectic mix, where a wider Range of musicians (fado, Jazz, Bossa Nova) come to jam and play. A highlight for us everytime we go
