Getting to the Algarve is relatively easy, with multiple transportation options available. The main international gateway is Faro Airport (FAO), located in the capital of the region, Faro. Here are the primary ways to reach the Algarve:

By Train:
The Portuguese train network connects major cities, including Lisbon and Porto, to the Algarve.
The train journey from Lisbon to Faro takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, we love travelling this way. Get your ticket in advance and enjoy the views.
By Bus:
Long-distance buses operate between major cities in Portugal and the Algarve.
Rede Expressos is a popular bus company providing intercity services. Buses from Lisbon to Faro take around 4 to 5 hours.
By Car:
If you're already in Portugal or neighboring countries, driving to the Algarve is a convenient option.
The A22 highway (Via do Infante) is the main road connecting the Algarve region, making it accessible by car from other parts of Portugal and Spain.

How to get around The Algarve, Portugal?
Renting a car is a popular and convenient way to explore the Algarve, our preferred option especially if you want to visit remote areas, beaches, or small villages. Major car rental companies operate at Faro Airport and other key locations in the Algarve. Note, this can be very expensive during peak season. We use rentalcars.com but compare a few different options as prices change regularly depending on the season.
Public Transportation:
Bus:Â The Algarve has an extensive bus network connecting major towns and cities. Rede Expressos and Eva Transportes are two major bus companies. Buses are a cost-effective option for traveling between towns.
Train:Â The train service connects major cities, including Faro, Lagos, and Tavira. It offers a scenic journey along the coastline. Comboios de Portugal (CP) operates train services in Portugal.
Taxis:
Taxis are readily available in urban areas and can be a convenient option for short distances or when public transportation is limited. Ensure the taxi has a meter, or agree on a fare before starting the journey.
Bicycle/ e-bikes/ e-scooters:
Some areas of the Algarve are bike-friendly, and cycling can be a pleasant way to explore coastal areas and countryside. Many towns offer bike rental services, and some hotels may provide bicycles for guests.
Boat and Ferries:
