So is Canggu worth visiting? Absolutely yes! Canggu is a great spot to visit if heading to Bali. We made this our first destination and it was the best choice. Canggu does still have that laid-back/ bohemian vibe that Bali is famous for, attracting a diverse crowd of surfers, digital nomads, and travelers but it is a little bit more bustling than Uluwatu and other areas of Bali that are renowned for the extremely relaxed atmosphere. The village is dotted with hip cafes, beach bars, boutique shops, and yoga studios, creating a vibrant and eclectic atmosphere.

Getting there:
Location:
Canggu is located on the southwestern coast of Bali, Indonesia. It is situated north of Seminyak and Kuta and south of Tanah Lot.
Transportation:
Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar is the main airport serving Bali. From the airport, you can get to Canggu by taxi, private transfer, or ride-hailing services like Grab or Gojek. We recommend private transfer for ease.
How to get around?
Scooter Rental:
Scooter rental is a popular and convenient way to explore Canggu and its nearby attractions. Many rental shops offer scooters for daily or weekly rates. Be sure to wear a helmet, follow traffic rules, and have an international driving license. Canggu is busy, we opted for gojeks and walking instead.
Bicycle Rental:
Canggu has a relatively flat terrain, making it suitable for cycling. You can rent bicycles from local shops and explore the streets, rice fields, and nearby beaches at a leisurely pace.
Walking:
Canggu is a pedestrian-friendly area with sidewalks along main streets. Walking is a great way to explore the local cafes, shops, and beach areas, especially if you're staying in a central location.
Ride-Hailing Apps:
Apps like Grab and Gojek operate in Bali, including Canggu. You can use these apps to book motorbike rides, car rides, or even food delivery. Keep in mind that some areas may have restrictions on ride-hailing services, so availability can vary. Super cost effective and convenient.
Taxi:
Traditional taxis are available in Canggu, and you can find them at popular locations or arrange for one through your accommodation. Just make sure that the taxi uses a meter, or agree on a fare before starting the journey.
Private Driver:
Hiring a private driver for a day or for specific trips is a comfortable option, especially if you're traveling with a group or have specific destinations in mind. Your accommodation can assist in arranging private drivers. Otherwise we had an amazing driver who you can find here
Shuttle Services:
Some accommodations and beach clubs in Canggu provide shuttle services to popular destinations or nearby areas. Check with your hotel or villa to see if they offer such services.
Car Rental:
Car rental is an option if you prefer a four-wheeled vehicle. Having a car can be convenient if you plan to explore more extensive areas beyond Canggu.
Public Transportation:
While public transportation options are limited in Canggu, you may find local bemos (shared mini busses) or public shuttles that connect to nearby towns. However, these options may not be as readily available as in more urban areas.
Best Canggu accomodation?
Book in advance, especially during peak seasons as prices go up and good accomodation gets booked out.
We stayed at Zin Canggu resorts and Villas and couldn't have been happier with the accomodation. For us, it worked out at about $200 a night. The room was stunning and the accomodation had everything. Wonderful service, air con, free parking, a pool, a gym and walking distance to everything we needed. Canggu Beach is 200 metres from the resort, while Batu Bolong Beach is 1 km away. The nearest airport is Ngurah Rai International Airport, 19 km from ZIN Canggu Resort & Villas.

Q&A
Is Canggu very touristy? Canggu is very touristy. It is a town full of travelers, surfers and digital nomads. This does mean it can be slightly more expensive than other areas around Bali. That being said, don't let that deter you. It is definitely worth a visit.
Is Canggu a party town? The beauty of Canggu is you can have it all. If you are looking for a party holiday (we were not) there is plenty to explore. Finns beach club is the most famous spot for partying but there are plenty of bars around for you to explore too. We had no issues with noise or feeling like the place was just for partying.
Should I go to Ubud or Canggu?
If you have the time, why not do both. We have both been to Ubud seperately and decided to go to Canggu. Our main reasons? Canggu has more options when it comes to restaurants etc and the traffic is less hectic. Getting through Ubud in peak traffic can take hours.
How many days do you need in Canggu?
3-5 days is enough time in Bali if going for a holiday, especially if you are planning to visit other areas. It is a great place to start your trip and then slowly move to more relaxed areas like Uluwatu and Nusa Lembongan.

Love Anchor Canggu Market:
Location:Â Batu Bolong Street, Canggu
Description:Â Love Anchor is a vibrant market located on Batu Bolong Street. It features numerous stalls and shops offering a variety of goods, including clothing, accessories, art, and handicrafts. The market has a lively atmosphere and is popular among both locals and tourists.
Samadi Sunday Market:
Location:Â Samadi Bali, Jl. Padang Linjong No.39, Canggu
Description:Â Samadi Sunday Market is hosted by Samadi Bali, a holistic wellness center. The market takes place on Sundays and offers a selection of organic produce, handmade crafts, jewellery, and wellness products. It often includes live music and workshops, creating a relaxed and community-oriented atmosphere.
Pasar Desa Canggu:
Location:Â Jl. Munduk Catu No.1, Canggu
Description:Â Pasar Desa Canggu is a traditional market that provides a glimpse into local life. Here, you can find fresh produce, fruits, vegetables, spices, and local snacks. It's a great place to experience the daily market culture of Bali.
2) Lounge at the beach clubs
La Brisa:
Location:Â Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan, Canggu
Description:Â La Brisa is a boho style beach club located on Echo Beach. It is pretty chilled and very easy to lounge on the bean bags for the day grazing and sipping on cocktails. It's known for its seafood menu, cocktails, and panoramic ocean views.
Cost: Some assigned free tables but most have a minimum spend starting from approx $30 (au) per table.
Note: They do not take bookings during busy periods, usually 4pm-7pm. Walk ins only. Large group bookings are possible.
The Lawn Canggu:
Location:Â Jl. Pura Dalem, Canggu
Description:Â The Lawn is a stylish beach club with a grassy area, comfortable seating, and ocean views. It offers a varied menu, cocktails, and a laid-back vibe.
Cost: There is a minimum spend. This varies from season to season starting at approx $70 (au) per table.
Finns Beach Club:
Location:Â Jl. Pantai Berawa, Canggu
Description:Â Finns Beach Club, previously known as Canggu Club, is a large entertainment complex featuring a beach club with a pool, multiple restaurants, and recreational facilities. It's a popular spot for those bigger celebrations, you will see lots of hens/bucks/ birthdays etc. A bit hectic for us but definitely worth a visit for the people watching alone.
Cost: Free entry and some free tables around. A bed/ area will cost you, starting from approx $60 (au) minimum spend.

3) Surf
Echo Beach: Echo Beach is one of the most popular surf spots in Canggu, known for its consistent waves and excellent breaks. It offers both left and right-hand waves suitable for surfers of varying skill levels. The beach has a relaxed atmosphere with rustic beach bars and cafes, making it a favorite hangout spot for surfers and beachgoers alike.
Batu Bolong Beach: Batu Bolong Beach is another top surf destination in Canggu, renowned for its long sandy stretch and great waves. It's particularly well-suited for beginner and intermediate surfers, with gentle waves that are perfect for learning. The beach also boasts a vibrant surf scene, with surfboard rentals and surf schools available for those looking to improve their skills or try surfing for the first time.
4) Hiking
Mount Batur:
Mount Batur is one of the popular sunrise trekking destinations in Bali and is located northeast of Canggu. It's an active volcano with a relatively easy trek that takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit. The sunrise views from the top are breathtaking, overlooking Lake Batur and Mount Agung. Guided sunrise treks to Mount Batur often start very early in the morning to reach the summit in time for sunrise.
Mount Agung:
Mount Agung, the highest volcano in Bali, offers a challenging but rewarding sunrise trek. It's a more strenuous hike compared to Mount Batur and requires physical fitness. The sunrise views from the summit are stunning, and you'll get a panoramic view of Bali. Due to its difficulty level, it's recommended to undertake this trek with a local guide.

Breakfast
Crate cafe
Lots of cool ambiance here, Crate Cafe is a Canggu favorite. They do a mean breakfast, great coffee and lots of great sweets. The industrial style setting is very aesthetically pleasing
Milk and Madu
Milk & Madu is a family-friendly and very inviting atmosphere. It has extensive menu featuring a fusion of global flavors, from hearty breakfasts and gourmet pizzas to refreshing smoothie bowls.
Cafe organic
Cafe Organic is a Canggu hotspot dedicated to organic and locally sourced ingredients. The food isn't just visually stunning but delicious and healthy too. Definitely an insta-gram worthy setting.
The shady shake
The Shady Shack stands out for its bohemian charm and plant-based menu. The ambiance is cozy and wholesome where you can enjoy vegan and vegetarian dishes surrounded by lot's of greenery.
Dinner
Mason:
You are looking at Sydney prices here but with the stylish industrial-chic decor and eclectic menu and delicious cocktails, it is great for when you want to treat yourself.
Shelter:
Shelter provides a cozy and welcoming ambiance in Canggu. They offering a menu focused on sustainable, organic ingredients. There is something for everyone. We had our most memorable Canggu meal here. They had noted our anniversary and pulled out all the stops. The service, food and ambiance were 10/10.
Luigi's Hot Pizza:
Who doesn't look for a pizza at least once when on holidays? Luigi's Hot Pizza is a local gem in Canggu known for its authentic Italian pizzas. It is thin crust style, not usually our go-to but the quality ingredients, and a vibrant atmosphere draw you in. A great find.
La Calita:
La Calita brings the flavors of Mexico to Canggu, serving up delicious tacos, flavorful margaritas, and a buzzy beachfront setting. The perfect spot for a relaxed dining experience.
Skol:
Skol is a trendy beachside venue in Canggu, combining a laid-back surf culture vibe with a menu featuring fresh seafood, creative cocktails, and a panoramic view of the ocean.
Ji Restaurant Bali:
Sushi fans have to try Ji Restaurant Bali. Housed in a stunning converted antique Joglo, the setting is beautiful on the rooftop with the ocean breeze. The menu is Asian-inspired and the sushi was a big hit for us.
